Citibank introduces Citi PremierMiles travel card with five frequent flyer program partners, giving cardholders chance to redeem free trips on over 70 airlines
Frequent travelers are sure to embrace the latest plastic currency to come from Citi, the world's largest provider of credit cards.
The five frequent flyer programs featured in Citi's new card include Cathay Pacific's Asia Miles, Singapore Airline's Kris Flyer, Philippine Airlines' Mabuhay Miles, Thai Airway's Royal Orchid Plus and delta airlines skymiles. With their participation in three travel alliance programs - Oneworld, SkyTeam and Star Alliance – these frequent flyer programs will allow Citi PremierMiles cardholders to redeem their miles in more than 70 airlines.
The Citi PremierMiles card will offer cardholders the chance to earn free miles for all spending, at a generous rate of 1 mile for every P45, which they can redeem through a choice of five frequent flyer programs that include Mabuhay Miles, the frequent flyer program of national carrier Philippine Airlines. What's more, the miles do not expire, giving cardholders the freedom to rack up their miles to redeem a free trip, complimentary upgrade, or companion ticket whenever they want.
Mark Jones, Citi's country business manager, related their new plastic will redefine the travel card category. "Previously, travelers were limited in choosing their credit card on the basis of one frequent flyer program. However, travelers rarely fly using the same carrier everytime. Those who are looking for the best deals on airfare tend to switch airlines, depending on their destination," Jones narrated.
"With Citi PremierMiles, they will have total freedom with their miles, and can choose from as many as five frequent flyer programs and three travel alliance programs," explained Jones.
Citi PremierMiles has two variants, Gold and Platinum. Cardholders will earn one mile for every P45 spent using the card for local purchases. Overseas, Platinum cardholders will earn two miles for every P45 charged to their card.
Bea Tan, Citi's Cards Business Director, added that on top of the miles, cardholders of Citi PremierMiles will enjoy a range of travel-related conveniences. "When they purchase their travel tickets using Citi PremierMiles, our cardholders will enjoy free travel inconvenience and travel accident insurance. For those who normally purchase travel insurance, this is a pretty good deal."
Cardholders are insured for as much as P10 million when they pay for their travel expenses using Citi PremierMiles. Their travel accident coverage starts from point of departure until point of arrival.
Meanwhile, missed or delayed flights, delayed luggage or worse, lost luggage, all guaranteed to put off even the most seasoned of travelers, are made easier when travel tickets are paid with Citi Premier Miles. "If you are traveling alone and your luggage is delayed for six hours from your arrival, you can claim as much as P10,000 for the inconvenience. If you are traveling with your family, the claim climbs to P20,000. That's enough for you to shop for a couple of change of clothes," Tan explained.
"If 24 hours passed and your luggage is still not found, you will be entitled to P30,000 if you are traveling solo, or P60,000, when with family."
Citi PremierMiles first debuted in the United States in 2004, where it is known as Citi PremierPass. Three years later, it was launched in Singapore as Citi PremierMiles where it was equally well-received.
“Citi PremierMiles was designed to help consumers not only earn more miles, but make it easier to enjoy them. The unmatched offerings of this new card will redefine consumers’ expectations in reward programs. And the best part is this is just one of our many exciting new products lined up for 2008," concluded Jones.
