AirTran Airways announced today that it will begin nonstop service between Lehigh Valley International Airport (LVIA) and their Atlanta-Hartsfield International hub beginning on May 4, 2010. Service will be daily with Boeing 717 aircraft. AirTran Airways will provide an early morning departure from LVIA and an evening return, allowing passengers to connect with AirTran Airways flights to their numerous destinations across the US and the Caribbean. In addition to the Atlanta service, AirTran Airways will also add additional service to their existing Orlando route taking it from four times a week to daily service.
"When AirTran began its service to Florida last spring we were told that a strong response from the greater Lehigh Valley Region could result in more service including Atlanta," commented George F. Doughty, Executive Director, Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority. He continued "We are certain that the region will love AirTran's low fares and great service to many very popular destinations for both business and leisure travel."

Lehigh ValleyInternationalAirport is located near Allentown, Pennsylvania and is served by Air Canada, AirTran Airways, Allegiant Air, American, Continental, Delta, Direct Air, United and US Airways. LVIA serves a twelve county area with a population base of 3.6 million people. The Airport is easily accessible from communities in eastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey areas. The airport is entirely funded by user fees; no property tax dollars are used for the airport's capital improvements or for its day-to-day operation.
