Budapest Ferihegy Airport is expanding passenger services with two new elements.
New automatic check-in counters – For quicker check-in
BA will install 12 new automatic check-in counters in the first quarter of 2009 to ensure that check-in takes even less time. As of early next year, eight machines will serve the comfort of passengers at Terminal 2A and four at Terminal 2B.
The 12 new check-in machines will be used jointly by the airlines, since the devices are capable of recognizing several booking systems. The new kiosks will also replace the current dedicated check-in machines, which will be removed in parallel.
The check-in machines enable passengers to complete check-in without queuing, including, amongst other services, selecting their seats. Passengers with hand baggage can then proceed directly to security screening, eliminating the several minutes of queuing at check-in. Those with large pieces of baggage can check these in at a dedicated counter.
“We would like to minimize queuing at Ferihegy,” said BA CEO Jost Lammers. “That was the reason behind the nearly one billion HUF replacement of our passenger security screening systems, and that is why we are now introducing our two new services. The use of the new check-in kiosks follows international trends. Our Priority Lane program is designed to ensure a more pleasant experience for our frequent fliers. We would like to provide excellent services to our passengers, so that they can prepare for their journey in comfort.”
Priority Lane – Priority for premium passengers
Budapest airport is opening a new Priority Lane service, whereby passengers with frequent flier cards and business class tickets using Terminal 2A and 2B enjoy priority during passenger security screening.
BA is opening a dedicated lane for priority passengers, who can thus avoid joining the queue of passengers awaiting passenger security screening. The Priority Lane service can be used with a sticker, stuck onto the boarding passes of premium passengers during check-in. Upon presentation of the sticker, BA staff checking boarding passes will open a lane leading straight to the X-ray machines. This means that passengers using the Priority Lane will not have to queue up for screening, especially in the peak hours. Priority Lane ensures a more pleasant start to one’s journey, and enables passengers to save precious minutes, not having to factor in the time spend with queuing up for security screening.
