Guernsey airport parking prices set to rise

price of parking for six hours or more at Guernsey Airport is set to rise from 1 July, but the first hour will remain free. Short-term parking, for up to 2 hours, is also being frozen at £3.

It is the first time airport car park prices have increased since February 2010. Day-trip charges will rise from £3 to £4 for up to six hours, and from £4 to £5 for a day trip between six and 12 hours. Longer term parking charges will also rise from £8 a day to £10 a day.

Guernsey Airport director Colin Le Ray said income from the car parking was a key revenue stream, and helped to keep air passenger charges down. However even after the increase, Guernsey Airport’s parking would still represent good value. ‘We are keeping the first hour’s free parking, which is ideal for people picking up or seeing off friends and relatives. After that the charges for longer stays will still compare well with other airports,’ he said. ‘We have to be mindful of the fact that unlike somewhere in the UK, our passengers are not travelling long distances so the cost of alternative transport is much lower. However people like the convenience of being able to drive to the airport, and have their own car there for them when they get back. That is essentially the service we are offering.’ The increased charges are forecast to raise an additional £150,000 a year.
