delta airlines adding first class seats
Delta airlines is expanding the First Class cabin on more than 60 percent of its mainline domestic fleet – approximately 350 aircraft – as it responds to business customers' requests for more premium cabin seating.
The change is part of Delta's one billion dollar plan to upgrade services, including plans to equip some planes with flat-bed seating for extra legroom and other amenities like overhead storage space.
Currently, Delta offers first class services on its Embraer 170s, Embraer 175s and Bombardier CR1700s, Bombardier CRJ900 planes. They feature nine to twelve First Class seats and 56 to 64 coach seats. Flights that offering a first class cabin provide meals, china and linen service. Additional benefits include free cocktails, wine bear and a pre-departure beverage.
Delta plans include as part of its fleet 219, two-class regional aircraft service to 272 domestic routes, which may be run by regional carriers Pinnacle Airlines, Chatauqua, SkyWest and others. Once plans for upgrades are complete, which are expected by this fall, there will be 50 routes featuring Delta Connection flights with one service class offering economy and first class. The carrier currently maintains eleven percent of its domestic seats as first or business class choices.
By summer 2013, Delta will add more than 1,200 First Class seats to its domestic MD-88, MD-90, Boeing 757-200 and Boeing 767-300 aircraft as it retrofits and upgrades the aircraft interiors. The initiative, which follows the addition of First Class cabins to all Delta Connection regional jets with more than 60 seats, does not impact Delta's previously announced capacity guidance.

Sathis Manoharen, AirAsia regional head for cargo, said, “We’ve been signing up more key players in the cargo industry. Demand for our cargo space is picking up, and with AirAsia now up there among the world’s most recognizable brands and with the expanded reach that we have with our airline partners, more large companies are interested in our cargo services. Our competitive prices have allowed us to also increase business with individual senders.”
Domestic cargo operations are also expected to receive a boost from increased demand for cargo services for perishable cargo , including seafood from West Malaysia. Seafood and other perishables are currently among AirAsia’s significant cargo revenue sources, and there is a sizeable demand for cargo services for these between East and Peninsular Malaysia and from East Malaysia to Macau, Hong Kong and China mostly via Kuala Lumpur.
The airline, which considers cargo as a major area of growth for 2010, expects its cargo revenue to grow by more than 40% over last year’s performance.
“AirAsia is growing in many markets, but South Asia is of particular interest because of our rapid expansion there. In November last year, AirAsia started flying to the three Indian cities of Kolkata, Trivandrum and Kochi. These are in addition to our other destinations in the region – Tiruchirappalli, Dhaka and Colombo. Interest from businesses there is picking up, and this should intensify when we begin flights to even more South Asian cities this year,” Sathis added.
AirAsia has operations based in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. It operates short-haul and long-haul flights on 132 routes to ASEAN (Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Singapore, Brunei and the Philippines), mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taipei, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, UAE, Australia and the UK.
With the airline’s frequent daily flights between East and Peninsular Malaysia, it is able to deliver perishable cargo within time frames required by exporters and importers. Also, as part of an agreement with the Cargo Terminal Operator, the airline utilizes usage of the airport’s cold room facility within a fixed period.

Southwest Airlines' proposed acquisition of AirTran Airways could create enhanced schedule and air fare competition and new routes at atlanta Hartsfield–Jackson International Airport.
The airline is awaiting regulatory approval for the acquisition and expects it to close during the second quarter. Acquiring Orlando, Florida-based AirTran will allow Southwest to begin flights at Atlanta and Washington’s Reagan National airport and expand service from New York’s LaGuardia.
Southwest will begin flights from New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International March 27, and Kelly said the carrier is interested in growing there and at LaGuardia if more takeoff and landing slots become available.
Service will continue at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Islip, New York, even as Southwest boosts service at the larger New York-area airports, Kelly said. Southwest has 24 daily departures from Islip new york.

Emirates airline plan to add a new European country to its ever expanding route network with non-stop, daily flights to Copenhagen in Denmark.
Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital city which attracts 1.3 million tourists a year, will become the Emirates’ 112th international destination and the 27th destination in Europe.
Emirates will start 4 times a week service DXB - CPH,Starting 1st August 2011, EK 151 will leave Dubai each day at 0830hrs and arrive in Copenhagen at 1310hrs. From Copenhagen, EK 152 departs at 1455hrs, arriving in Dubai at 2315hrs.
Emirates will be operating an Airbus A330-200 on the Copenhagen route in a three-class configuration. On board, passengers can enjoy the delicacies from the exclusive menu served to them by Emirates’ cabin crew from over 120 nations.

AirAsia Philippines to launch budget flights in the third quarter of 2011.After setting up joint ventures in Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam, Southeast Asia's biggest budget carrier Air Asia is now launching Air Asia Philippines.
AirAsia’s entry into the Philippines market is expected to further boost competition in a space that is set to become increasingly crowded as more budget carriers enter the fray.

United made the change as a result of the hundreds of complaints it receives each year from customers who "had to share their seat with the oversized guest,"
For the comfort and well-being of all customers aboard United flights, we have aligned with other major airlines' seating policies relating to passengers who:
are unable to fit into a single seat in the ticketed cabin;
are unable to properly buckle the seatbelt using a single seatbelt extender; and/or
are unable to put the seat's armrests down when seated.
If unused seats are available on the ticketed United or United Express flight, then a overweight passenger meeting any of the above criteria will be reaccommodated next to an empty seat.
If no unused seats are available on the ticketed flight, then the customer must either purchase an upgrade to first class or business class with available seats that address the above-listed scenarios, or change his or her ticket to the next available flight and purchase a second seat in addition to the one already purchased. If a customer meeting any of the above-listed criteria cannot be accommodated next to an empty seat and chooses not to upgrade or change flights and purchase a ticket for an additional seat, he or she will not be permitted to board the flight.
If purchasing on the day of departure and an additional seat or upgraded seat is not available on the ticketed flight, then the customer will be required to rebook on the next United flight that has adequate seating available. Any fees that would normally be associated with this type of change will be waived in this circumstance. If adequate seating is not available and the customer decides not to travel, the ticket can be refunded without penalty, even if it is a nonrefundable ticket.
